OBEDIENCE TO GOD

OBEYING GOD

Obedience is when we completely put our trust in God, having confidence in His Supremacy. It is when we make God our priority in all situation and circumstances. This means putting God’s desires first, before ours. When we obey, we demonstrate our love, trust and loyalty to and for God. The Lord is very keen on and rewards every act of obedience (1 Samuel 22:5) says “obedience is better than sacrifice.”

Obedience to God is never an act of convenience, but an act of trust and worship. In  1 kings 17:7-16, God sent Elijah to Zarephath, where He had commanded a widow to provide for him. it was a very inconvenient situation, for both Elijah and the widow who had just a handful of flour and a little oil in the jar. But as soon as Elijah requested for provisions, it was binding upon her to obey the voice of God or not. Naturally there was no logic in the arrangement, but Supernaturally the widow was just about to experience the limitless sufficiency of God. But first, she was to make a small cake for Elijah, and afterward make some for herself and her son.

Every commandment of God is associated with a Promise, but the sacrifice of trusting God enough to put Him first brings about the fulfilment of the promise. (1 kings 17:14) “For thus says the Lord God of Israel: the bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry until the day the lord sends rain upon the earth.” The Widow of Zarephath obeyed the Lord and throughout the famine, her household was sustained in plenty.

Perhaps the lord is asking you to do something that seems logically senseless in the eyes of the world. You might be trying to put the pieces together but they just don’t fit. I would encourage you to trust God beyond your own reasoning; Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” As God’s children let us always remember that His ways are not our ways neither are His thoughts our thoughts. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so are His ways and thoughts above ours.

It is written in 1chorinthians 1:27 “but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise.” In other words, the worldly wise, cannot comprehend divine wisdom in the simple things of life; only those filled with the Holy Spirit can. Naaman was asked to wash seven times in the river Jordan, that he may be cleansed of his leprosy. But he disobeyed, thinking Elisha’s instructions were too simple and foolish. He expected something more complicated (2nd Kings 5:10-14). Naaman had to be convinced to trust in the word of God, spoken by Elisha the Prophet. He almost narrowly missed his healing due to disobedience and unbelief.

Benefits of Obedience

  • You please God
  • The peace of the Lord fills your heart
  • Heaven accounts it unto you for righteousness
  • Breaking through into the fulfilment of Gods promises
  • A deeper relationship with God (Hebrews 11:16)

I pray our Lord Jesus Christ gives you divine wisdom to see beyond what YOU SEE, and the grace to trust and have faith in Him, even as the Holy Spirit quickens your heart and soul into obeying His voice. Amen!
